Welcome to 4th Grade Science!
August/September 2017
Wow! What a fantastic start to a new year! We have hit the ground running with barely a breath in between each class! 4th grade is off to busy start! Fall is here and we had a fabulous solar eclipse to start the first week and an hurricane to end it!! I hope everyone enjoyed getting to see that or at least a little bit of it!! If not, be sure to check out some of the great pictures that are available online.
This first nine weeks is beginning to flying by. We are just short of 1/3 of the way through and heading non-stop to the end of the nine weeks. We started the semester with getting to know you activities and Scientific Inquiry. We will be studying plants and practicing the scientific method to get us ready for Science Fair.
After the first three weeks, we will move into working on Matter. Properties of matter (size, shape, color, texture, hardness, magnetism and temperature-just to give you an idea) , volume, mass vs. weight, are just some of the topics we are working with. This week we have been discussing density and how it relates to different everyday liquids as well as its relationship between its mass and volume.
As we continue through this 9 weeks and move into the second 9 weeks, we will begin to work on Force, Motion, and Energy as our next unit of study. This unit will take us through November.
!!!IMPORTANT!!!! All students are required to complete 5 minutes of Typing homework 4 nights a week, except Wednesday nights starting after BACK to SCHOOL night (Sept 7th). However, all students may choose to complete their 20 minutes any time during the week as it fits your home schedule and computer access AS long as it is completed prior to their next computer class day on the following Wednesday.
Be on the lookout for exciting news, events, and happenings!
